Tragedy on BR-282 Leaves Two Dead and One Seriously Injured in Santa Catarina
Wednesday afternoon (28) was marked by a tragic accident on the BR-282 highway, between the municipalities of Xaxim and Xanxerê, located in the western region of the state of Santa Catarina.
The brutal collision involved two cars. The force of the impact left two people dead and one seriously injured, prompting the swift mobilization of rescue teams and causing widespread shock in the region.
The fatal victims were identified as Volnei Pereira Camargo, 33, and Juvenil dos Santos, 65. Both were in a Renault Kwid, which was completely destroyed in the crash.
Emergency services, including the Military Fire Department and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), were called around 5:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers found both men deceased and trapped in the wreckage.
A third person was found conscious but with severe injuries to the head, chest, and limbs. Firefighters immediately began the extraction process, and the medical team stabilized the victim before urgently transporting them to a local hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle, whose identity has not been released, was uninjured and refused medical treatment. Despite this, the presence of authorities was crucial in securing the highway.
Firefighters took charge of signaling the area until the arrival of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Scientific Police, who carried out the technical investigation and released the roadway.
After the bodies were removed, a thorough cleanup of the highway was required, as a large amount of spilled oil had made the road dangerously slippery. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of caution on highways, particularly those with heavy traffic and conditions that can quickly become deadly.
